LONGER BIO:

David Weiss is a seasoned media professional with extensive experience in digital marketing, advertising, film, television, and streaming. With a successful career spanning over two decades, he has made significant contributions to the growth and success of several major media and interactive organizations. In addition to his creative expertise, David has also demonstrated impressive business acumen in driving growth and profitability.

 

Earlier in his career, Weiss honed his creative talents in the film industry, working as an apprentice and assistant film editor at Kaleidoscope Films and Universal Pictures Feature Trailer Department. During this time, he worked on approximately 25 film movie trailers including those for "Basic Instinct", "JFK", and "The Lost World" (Jurassic Park II). He was later classified by the Motion-Picture Editors Guild as a full motion picture editor.

 

David established himself as a creative force in the world of television and media marketing by building and running his own agency, leveraging his theatrical background and instincts. Later in his career, at CBS All Access and Paramount+, he served as the Chief Creative Officer as the Vice President of Marketing and Creative Services. There, he oversaw video and design creative strategy as well as the UI design of all digital products for the company. David played a key role in the creation and management of the CBS Mobile division and multi-million dollar partnership with Qualcomm, AT&T, and Verizon. He successfully led the marketing strategy on the mobile front, putting CBS ahead of the pack. Additionally, he oversaw the design and marketing of the Emmy Award winning (for innovation and design) "March Madness On Demand” iPhone App - rated #1 in the Apple App Store.

 

David built a 100+ person in-house advertising agency for all digital brands, including the company's flagship streaming service, CBS All Access, the site CBS.com, and laid the groundwork for Paramount+. In his role, he led all creative strategy, operations, and creative executions for A/V (video) spots/reels, digital display, and print which included written creative briefs, branding, copy, brainstorming-ideation-pitching, outdoor, sales, emails, packaging, event marketing, 3d motion, EST, merchandising, shoots, and photography. He successfully launched services and shows and identified operational performance gaps as strategic opportunities, growing a cross-functional department while saving over $10M in annual costs. David's leadership and guidance helped guide the digital transformation of CBS into a top 10 internet consumer property, leading over 300M users worldwide. He effectively increased ratings/subscriptions by over 75% in six months and oversaw a $25M+ annual budget for multiple vendors while securing project delivery workflows, doing sourcing, risk mitigation/planning, and technical prioritization. As a visionary leader, David also oversaw the UI/UX designs for flagship digital sites/apps across platforms and marketing campaigns for CBS All Access, acquiring millions of new activations. He created and oversaw a social media team and worked with media data metrics/testing to evaluate the impact of every campaign.

Managed strategy, conceptualization and execution of all broadcast and digital marketing across all mobile business units including CNET, Gamespot, CBS News, CBS Sports, Metacritic, and Gamespot. Launched the CBS Mobile (cable style) TV Network channel and branding for CBS corp. CBS was the #2 out of the 20 channel network on the 24 hour nation-wide digital "FLO TV" platform. Competitors included NBC, Comedy Central, and ABC. Created on-air department and marketing group to support 24 hours of custom CBS programming and schedule. Founded and managed Creative Services department. Built design, editorial, and motion graphics team. Launched “Victoria’s Secret TV” and the “LOL Network”. Served as creative consultant for all CBS Interactive departments. Oversaw all WAP and or app, iPhone and Android, UI Design production for all CBSi products. Led the team that that designed and marketed the Emmy award winning 64 games/channel March Madness On-Demand iPhone app. Shows marketed through air include CSI and CSI Miami.

Charged with managing and directing the marketing team which created and implemented Upfront presentations and the launching of high profile network shows. Series' included were "Heist", "Jericho", "Happy Hour", "Capitol Law", "Haskett's Chance" and the season premiere of "House” on Fox Television. Also produced the creation of the Showest 3-D "Expand" movie presentation with “Spongebob” and managed all agency and entertainment studio relationships with the television network clients including Fox, NBC, and CBS.

Worked as the senior creative director, manager and consultant for clients including Nickelodeon, Paramount, NBC, PAX, Bravo, CBS, and Sony from concept to finish. Appointed by NBC as the Executive Programming Consultant for Bud Paxson - majority owner of the PAX Network, his chief executives including the COO and president of PAX Television. Reported to Sheraton Kalouria at NBC- Universal (NBC owned 35%). Sheraton is currently the Chief Marketing Officer at Sony Pictures Television. Additionally, flew to the Florida studio to consult and upgrade the On-Air group. Other work included the managing and producing of the Reality Show "Cold Turkey" PSA promo shoots, the creation of 5 presentations and shoots for NBC-Bravo and PAX, producing the on-air marketing launch for The WB's "Summerland" starring Zac Efron, and doing post production supervision for the marketing shoots of two movie spots for "Lemony Snicket, A Series of Unfortunate Events” starring Jim Carrey and "The Spongebob Squarepants Movie.”

Ran the agency marketing group for all theatrical run or television network dramatic shows or MOW’s for the company. Clients included: NBC, CBS, CWM, Promark, Walt Disney Pictures, and more. Successfully supervised and managed a large marketing team which created and implemented effective national Television advertising ON-AIR Broadcast campaigns for numerous networks and studios. Obtained new exclusive MOW business with CBS delivering numerous #1 rated campaigns including “Lucy” and “Martin-Lewis”. Secured existing NBC relationship. NBC required that I manage all movie promotion projects done by company.

May 2000 - September 2002

Under reign as controlling manager, attained large accounts with NBC, CBS, Sony Pictures Television, and additional major projects with FOX Broadcasting, Carsey-Werner and more. Managed the marketing launches of "Law & Order CI","Seinfeld"(synd.), "Just Shoot Me"(synd.), Michael Mann’s “Robbery Homicide Division” and Jon Avnet’s "Uprising" movie campaigns for NBC and more. Established Picture Plant as a premiere 3-D animation company using first ever “Toy-Story” Maya tools in the broadcast industry for the re-branding of Seinfeld. Ran point on motion-picture development projects including meetings with Sony and Escape Artists Productions, LLC with Steve Tisch, Todd Black, and Jason Blumenthal. Oversaw documentary development and secured on location shoot at Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, Africa gaining the attention of ABC News, Good Morning America, and Sony Pictures.

Before Picture Plant, David worked at Kaleidoscope Films and Universal Pictures Feature Trailer Department as an apprentice film editor.  The movie trailers he worked on include, "Basic Instinct", "JFK", and "The Lost World"(Jurassic Park II).  In all, he worked on approximately twenty-five films.  

 

He was later classified by the Motion-Picture Editor's Guild as a full motion picture editor.  Other projects he would post supervise would include theatrical TV spots for "Sponge Bob Square Pants - The Movie" and "Lemony Snicket...".  
 

It was because of his theatrical background and instincts that the networks were attracted to him.  He offered a creative point of view that wasn't available to them elsewhere;  because of that, he handled the campaigns for dozens of high level shows, specials, and television movies for the networks that required a theatrical touch.  This included the movies "Carrie" for NBC, "Lucy" & "Martin-Lewis" for CBS, and "Uprising", Jon Avnet's mini-series about the holocaust (all highly rated). He was also asked to launch dramas such as "Law & Order Criminal Intent", "E-Ring", directed by Taylor Hackford, "Jericho" and Michael Mann's, "Robbery Homicide Division".
